Reaching further towards the inland you will find Verona, the city which Shakespeare chose as setting to his “Romeo and Juliet”, also famous for its Arena, an ancient amphitheatre of Roman construction that is home to this day to prestigious concerts and lyric operas.
If you wish to stay closer to the seaside, two towns that are definitely worth a visit are Portogruaro, situated in northern Veneto, with its typical medieval structure full of colonnades and ancient buildings, and Concordia Sagittaria, important centre in Roman times, which still maintains many of its stunning archaeological finds.
