Museums to visit

The beautiful cities surrounding Bibione and Lignano offer interesting museums that trace the history, culture and traditions of the area.

Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta and museum - Aquileia
With its precious mosaics and its bell tower dating back to the year 1000, the patriarchal basilica of Santa Maria Assunta is an important witness of the ancient history. Furthermore, the museum keeps all the findings and furnishings found during the excavations.

Museo Nazionale Concordiese – Concordia Saggitaria and Portogruaro
Momentous areas for the ancient history of the territory, the two small Venetian cities house the Museo Nazionale Concordiese, whose seat is in Portogruaro, but which keeps the ancients findings found in the ancient roman colony called Julia Concordia.

Villa Manin- Passariano di Codroipo
House of the last Venetian doge, Ludovico Manin, the Venetian Villa in Passariano di Codroipo is still a place worth visiting. Apart from a fixed exhibition including the bedroom of Napoleon, who lived here for a couple of months, the building also houses several international exhibitions.

Abbazia of Santa Maria in Sylvis – Sesto al Reghena
The Abbazia Benedettina of Santa Maria in Sylvis displays medieval frescos dating back to the XIV century. Furthermore, in the crypt, it is possible to visit the urn of Santa Anastasia, which is an excellent example of the Lombard art of the Viii century.

Ipogeo Celtico and tempietto Longobardo – Cividale Del Friuli
The ancient forum Iulii, from which the name of the region derives, displays artistic and architectural witnesses of the past. The so-called Ipogeo Celtico, an underground dungeon surrounded by an atmosphere of mystery, still has its unique charm; it is generally believed that, in its origins, it had had some funerary functions. On the other hand, the tempietto Longobardo is one of the most important and better-kept examples of the typical Lombard architecture.

Museo Letterario Ippolito Nievo – Fratta di Fossalta di Portogruaro
The Museo Letterario Ippolito Nievo keeps tracks and manuscripts of one of the most important Italian writers of the 1800s, which contributed to give a new perspective about his figure and about the history of italy.

Museo Storico Militare – Palmanova
The nine-pointed star city houses this interesting museum, whose objects are reminiscent of the history of the fortress, which is generally considered as a real gem for the military architecture, from its foundation in 1953 to the contemporary period.

Peggy Guggenheim Collection and Basilica di San Marco – Venezia
Venice is not just about charm, but it is also a place where to find plenty of well-known museums, such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in palazzo Vernier dei Leoni, which includes some of the main European and American works of art of the first half of the XX century. not to be forgotten is the San Marco Basilica, that is to say the cathedral of the city, which combines some Western and oriental architectural styles; this goes together with its bell tower, one of the most well-known symbols of italy.
